27/02/2009 Red Tower - Paradise Bay

We started our walk from just above Mellieha Bay and walked past the Red Tower to the radio station at the end of the peninsula. Stunning views across to Gozo and Comino with a fine view of the ferry arriving at Cirkewwa. Retraced our steps a few yards and took a very rocky and, in places, steep path down towards Paradise Bay, taking a few detours on the way to explore the cliff top paths. Stopped for a short break at the sandy beach before taking the road towards Cirkewwa and the bus back.

23/02/2009 Mosta - Chadwick Lakes - Dwejra Lines

Set off from Mosta in the direction of Rabat but then turned at a signpost for Chadwick Lakes. The lakes are actually little more than streams at this point but still very picturesque. We then climbed towards Bingemma Gap before folowing a rocky path that led past some catacombs and then followed the Dwejra Lines, a huge line of fortifications built in Victorian times. After admiring the outstanding views across northern Malta and Gozo, we returned to Mosta.

Some previous walks during February

Wednesday, 11th February: walked from Bidnija to Zebbiegh and returned by a slighly different route. A very windy day.

Wednesday, 4th February: walked from Xemxija to Golden Bay, coast to coast. Folowed the Xemxija heritage trail then turned left through woodland, following a series of paths to the cliffs above Golden Bay.

M
onday, 2nd February: walked from Qrendi to Mdina via Hagar Qim, Gebel Cantar & Buskett. Possibly the longest walk I've yet attempted. Probably a little too long - and steep in places, particularly the climb towards Dingli ciffs, but worth it though as the views were stunning.

20/02/2009 Three Cities

Took no. 4 bus to Vittoriosa terminus. Set off round Kalkara Creek to Vittoriosa, the first of the "Three Cities", passing Fort St. Angelo. Then walked around Dockyard Creek to Cospicua (Bormla), where we stopped for a coffee, then on to Senglea (Isla). Climbed up to Safe Haven Garden at the tip of Senglea for a stunning view accross the Grand Harbour to Valletta. Finally, we walked alongside French Creek back to Senglea bus terminus where we caught the no. 3 bus back to Valletta.

18/02/2009 Xemxija - Mgarr

Started out from Xemxija, walked up Wardija Ridge past St. Martin chapel to outskirts of Zebbieh then turned right to Mgarr. Stopped for a coffee and a look round the "egg & poultry church" before returning by a slightly different route to Xemxija.
